Facilities We Provide
Garden of Remembrance
The Garden of Remembrance is situated in an idyllic location out of the rush of everyday life. You can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere giving you the time and space to reflect and remember loved ones. The garden has grown in many ways since its opening in 1995 with its striking pergola and traditional designed raised flower beds reminiscent of the grand garden designs of stately homes from times gone by. With its park like views and walkways, the garden is home to many beautiful trees that not only create the ambiance but provide shelter to the abundant wild life. A place of peace for all who visit.
The Garden of Remembrance is owned by the Town Council and enquiries regarding interments and memorials should be directed to the Town Council office at Champions Manor Hall Community Centre, Hullbridge Road. Please refer to the Contact Us section of this web site.

Woodham Fenn
Woodham Fenn is unique in Essex for the transition it shows on it's 20 acres from saltmarsh at its southern end to dry grassland at the north, and it has a wonderful variety of plant and animal life as a result. It is for this reason it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Ramsar site, which means it is of national and international importance.
The reserve lies within an 85 acre area of common land including grassland, scrub, ditches and ponds, owned by South Woodham Ferrers Town Council, and managed by The Essex Wildlife Trust on their behalf.
There is a wide range of saltmarsh plants here, including the rare sea wormwood. The grassland contains plants and invertebrates which are rare in many parts of the country, such as the slender birds foot trefoil, grass vetching, wild carrot and crested hair grass, and at least six rare species of spider. Eleven Essex species of dragonflies and damselflies have been recorded here.
Birds such as reed bunting, yellow wagtail and meadow pipet can be heard, and sometimes seen, in the summer; teal, snipe and rock pipets make the reserve their winter home; while kingfishers hunt for eels in the creeks.
Harvest mice and short-tailed voles are about, regularly attracting kestrels and other birds of prey to hunt over the reserve.
Bush crickets, saltmarsh moths, Essex skippers, and a number of other common butterflies are abundant. The reserve is managed by annual cutting of the flower-rich meadows and rotational cutting of the rough grasslands to retain good conditions for these animals.
