Essex County Council is responsible for the highways with regards to gritting and clearing of snow.
Due to resources, only the major routes of the county are gritted and cleared.

Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order
Notice is herby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from 2 February 2012 to make a Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order under section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
To temporarily close that length of Hullbridge Road for a distance of 20 metres either side of South Woodham Ferrers level crossing.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 12 February 2012 for 1 day between the hours of 08:00h and 20:00h or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.

South Woodham Ferrers Town Council has recently created a Youth Council Group which has been tasked to help set up a Youth Council for the town.
The Youth Council has a remit and will be expected to bring forward ideas and act on information and projects already identified from research amongst the youth of the town.
