South Woodham Ferrers Bowls Club Open Day

Published: 23 May 2023

Our Town Mayor Donna Eley and Deputy Mayor Toni Perham Lake, spent a few enjoyable hours visiting South Woodham Ferrers Bowls Club during their open day on 21st May.

They had the chance to learn how to play the game of bowls. Records of bowls being played in England date back to the 12th century. The increasing popularity of bowls in England led to a string of kings and queens passing laws restricting its play. The concern was that lawn bowls were taking too much time away from men practising archery. Today, this leisure activity remains popular, and if you missed the chance to go along and try it for yourself, they would still be delighted to hear from new members.
