Mayoral Engagements

Engagements are carried out by both the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor, who are committed to fostering a thriving, vibrant community by engaging with residents, businesses, and organizations. We have included some of the activities of our mayor during his period of office. If you would like to invite the mayor to one of your events, please see our main mayor's page. Our Current Mayor is Councillor Alan Shearring, and his Deputy is Councillor Toni Perham-Lake.

Our Mayor was delighted to be invited to Trinity St Mary's School on the 17th January 2025 to an Art Gallery display in the main school hall. Every child at the school created a piece of art based on an artist they had been studying in class.

Our annual Town Mayors Award from South Woodham Ferrers to a pupil at William De Ferrers School during December 2024.

This years award goes to Constantina Mimikopoulou and our mayor was delighted to award her the annual prize of £100.00

Our mayor is dedicated to supporting local businesses and encouraging residents to do the same. During November 2024, the Town Council organized a festive competition with the theme of "Best Christmas Window Display."

Throughout the holiday season, our town's businesses showcased their creativity and community spirit with beautifully decorated windows. Our mayor had the pleasure of touring the town to admire the festive displays and select the winner and runner-up.

Congratulations to the winners! Pictured below, you can see our mayor with the winners:

  • LEFT: The Farleigh Hospice Charity Shop, who took first place with their heart warming and festive display.

  • RIGHT: Bread Box, the runner-up, with their charming and creative external and design.

Thank you to all the businesses that participated and helped make our town shine during the holiday season. Let's continue to support our local businesses and celebrate the community we love!

South Woodham Ferrers Town Council held two D Day 80th commemoration events during early June 2024.

Our mayor was delighted to invite guests, including the HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex, and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford City Council. It was both a chance to remember and to celebrate.

His deputy from the Town Council also attended.

Both Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Sunday formed an important part of our Mayor's engagements during 2024. He was invited to attend the Maldon Armed Forces Day, and stood with his deputy alongside the Mayor of Maldon Town Council and the Leader of Maldon District Council. He attended a number of other events, and met with a 102 year old WW2 veteran.

Our Mayor's Deputy attends events when the Mayor is unavailable, but they may occasionally also attend some events together.

Our Deputy Mayor was able to attend the Chameleon Theatre Arts " Family Fun Day" on the 1st February 2025, to look around and meet student dancers, their families and staff.
