Neighbourhood Policing

 

Information about Neighbourhood Policing can be found in the Essex Police website at www.essex.police.uk.

They also run local events where they engage with members of the local community. These are called 'Let's Talk' events and are often hosted at Champions Manor Hall or the Bandstand as well as other locations across the Town. South Woodham Ferrers is among the top 5 safest small towns in Essex, but it does come with issues over small anti-social behaviour, and county lines drugs. The police have been much more pro-active on both this issues, with sucessful operations to catch those on e-bikes and drug offences, which are often linked. 

 

Contacting the Police

 

You can use the national police non-emergency 101 telephone number to:

  • contact Essex Police about any non-emergency crime issue
  • contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team
  • seek crime prevention or personal safety advice
  • contact your nearest police station
  • speak to the police about any other non-emergency issue.

Calls to 101 are not free - there is a fixed charge of 15p for each call.

The 999 number should only be used to request assistance in cases of genuine emergency requiring an immediate police response.

Lock Sheds and Garages

 

Sheds and garages often hold valuable items like bikes, tools and gardening equipment. These are popular targets for thieves, especially during winter when nights are longer.

Stolen tools can even be used to break into homes. Make sure outbuildings are fitted with strong locks and keep them secured whenever they’re not in use.

Private Car Selling

 

Watch Out for Vehicle Defrauding Scams

We’ve had reports of fraudsters targeting people selling their cars privately.

In some instances, fraudsters are turning up to view a vehicle and secretly pouring oil onto the engine or exhaust. During the test drive, this creates smoke to make the car appear faulty. They then push for a much lower price or in some cases try to drive off with the vehicle altogether.

Keep Yourself Safe

  • Always stay with your vehicle during a viewing and test drives.
  • Don’t leave the engine running while you’re not there.
  • Keep your vehicle keys with you until the sale is fully agreed.
  • If something feels off, stop the viewing.
