Garden of Remembrance

garden of remembrance

The Garden of Remembrance is situated in an idyllic location out of the rush of everyday life. You can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere giving you the time and space to reflect and remember loved ones. The garden has grown in many ways since its opening in 1995 with its striking rotunda and traditional designed raised flower beds reminiscent of the grand garden designs of stately homes from times gone by. With its park like views and walkways, the garden is home to many beautiful trees that not only create the ambiance but provide shelter to the abundant wild life. A place of peace for all who visit.

If you would like more details or wish to discuss your requirements please contact the Town Council office    or view our information booklet.

Committal of Cremated Remains

The Garden of Remembrance is available for the disposition of cremated human remains. As well as through undertakers , we respectfully accept ashes from direct cremations, offering the option to hold a meaningful ceremony, which can be organised by us for no additional fee or through your chosen religious representative or celebrant.  This may be a final service of closure, or your main service, but in both cases, it is somewhere to visit in future times. You may want to bring flowers on the day, and a holder remains in place for when you next visit.

There are three options for the committal:

scattering copse

Scattering

Scattering of cremated remains takes place in the Scattering Copse. Scatterings can be booked all year. A simple scattering service is carried out in our scattering copse. You way want consider to purchase a separate memorial to your loved one.

Interment

Interment

Cremated remains are buried in individual plots in one of the raised interment beds and are marked with a bronze marker. Interments are available from April -  October each year.  You can now opt for an biodegradable urn to be purchased separately to be placed into the ground instead of a direct placement of the ashes. Each plot leaves a space for the option to adopt a second space.

The Columbarium is another way to have the ashes interred (available all year), either in the Adult or Babies and Child niches. These can be a much more environmentally friendly way for the final resting place for your loved one, over a burial in a coffin. See also our Columbarium section for an alternative.

About the Columbarium

A columbarium is a space where urns containing cremated remains are kept. It is an alternative option to having the ashes spread or interred into the ground. It is more environmentally friendly than a burial, more cost effective and has a longer plot renewal time than other options. There is a dedicated area for flowers to be laid.

There are two versions which have been installed at the Garden of Remembrance. One is an adult unit which is suitable for up to 2 urns. The other is in our babies and children section, which allows for a single niche space. There is a memorial tile covering each niche space.

Those wishing to be interned into one of the niches, is required to complete both the main form and a Part 2 form. All forms can be downloaded at the bottom of this page
