Mayors Chosen Charity

Our Mayor for 2025/2026 Cllr Alan Shearring, is delighted to have chosen the RNLI  for the second year and in addition 2531 (Woodham Ferrers) Squadron ATC - Royal Air Force Air Cadets as his chosen charities to help with fundraising and increasing awareness.

The RNLI: Saving Lives at Sea

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea across the UK and Ireland. Founded in 1824, the RNLI operates a fleet of lifeboats from stations around the coast and provides a 24/7 search and rescue service. Its volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards respond to emergencies, rescuing people in peril at sea, on the beach, and in flood situations inland. Beyond rescue missions, the RNLI runs education programs promoting water safety, provides training for international lifesaving organizations, and campaigns to reduce preventable deaths. Funded entirely by public donations, the RNLI has saved over 143,000 lives since its inception, making it a vital part of maritime safety and a respected symbol of bravery and selflessness

The Air Training Corps (ATC)

The Air Training Corps (ATC) is a UK-wide voluntary youth organization sponsored by the Royal Air Force, aimed at inspiring young people aged 12 to 20 through aviation-themed activities and personal development. Founded in 1941, the ATC offers cadets opportunities to experience flying, gliding, adventure training, and leadership exercises. It promotes citizenship, teamwork, and self-confidence, often encouraging young people towards careers in aviation or the armed forces, though many simply enjoy the skills and friendships gained. The ATC also engages in community service and fundraising, helping local causes while building a strong sense of responsibility. With over 30,000 cadets across the UK, the ATC plays a significant role in developing future leaders and fostering a spirit of adventure and service.
