SWF Leisure Centre - Club Links Gala

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Lisa Kelly, attended a special gala event at South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre on 27 August, marking the successful completion of an eight-week community swimming programme delivered in partnership with Woodham Ferrers Swim Club.

The programme, funded by Swim England, has provided local children with the opportunity to develop their swimming skills and build confidence in the water. Organisers have described the initiative as a great success, with many participants now being encouraged to progress into local swimming club programmes to continue their development.

The celebratory gala brought together swimmers, families and community representatives to recognise the participants' achievements. Olympic diver Sarah Barrow attended the event to present medals to the children and share insights from her sporting career, inspiring the next generation of athletes.

Speaking about the programme, organisers highlighted the importance of sport and swimming in promoting healthy lifestyles, building confidence and creating pathways for young people to develop their talents.

Cllr Lisa Kelly praised the initiative and the partnership between the Leisure Centre, Woodham Ferrers Swim Club and Swim England, recognising the positive impact the programme has had on local families and the wider community.
