Cornish Grove Footway/Cycleway - maintenance and improvements

Published: 30 April 2025

Please be aware that Essex Highways will soon be improving the Cornish Grove Footway and Cycleway in South Woodham Ferrers. The route spans approximately 510 metres between Ferrers Road and Cornwallis Drive.

Residents will be notified of our plans by letter (see attached letter, which also includes a map of the route).

From 12 May continuing until early July, repairs and surface irregularities will be addressed as well as upgrading signage and lining to enhance the route for pedestrians and cyclists.

Temporary traffic lights will be required on Ferrers Road for a substantial part of the works to support the safe access and egress of plant and materials. Additionally, a closure of the footway/cycleway will be implemented in phases to minimise the amount of time it impacts individual properties.

For safety reasons pedestrian diversions will be necessary, as the public will not be able to pass through the working area.

This work is all part of Essex County Council’s ambitious aim to make the transport network safer, greener and healthier. Rather than automatically jumping into our cars, we want to give you more choice in how you travel around especially for shorter trips. By encouraging more walking, cycling and wheeling, we will ease congestion for those who have to drive.

Please be aware that the dates may be subject to change if weather conditions hinder the programme, or if unforeseen issues arise.
