Inchbonnie Road / Collingwood School Pathway
Published: 30 October 2026
What works are currently being carried out and why they are required?
This is a cycleway reconstruction scheme designed to improve the condition and safety of the existing route.
2. Why has the footpath remained closed for this length of time?
Due to open excavations, limited access points, and ongoing site operations and vehicle movements, it has been necessary to maintain the closure to ensure the works can be carried out safely and to protect members of the public.
3. Who is responsible for the works?
Essex Highways is responsible for the delivery of these works.
4. What is the anticipated completion date and when is the route expected to reopen?
We are currently aiming to complete the works and reopen the route in early December. However, some delays have been encountered during the programme.
5. Have there been any delays or issues affecting the original programme?
Yes, several unforeseen issues have affected the programme. These have been managed in accordance with best practice to minimise disruption wherever possible. During the works, a leaking water main was identified, and arrangements were made for the necessary repairs. We also discovered buried asbestos, which required works to be suspended while the appropriate procedures for the management and disposal of asbestos were followed in accordance with Ringway Jacobs policies. More recently, significant tree roots have been uncovered within the footway. These are currently being investigated to determine the most appropriate solution, with this matter being managed by a separate division within Essex County Council.
We apologise for the delays and any inconvenience caused. Please be assured that the works are being managed in the safest and most appropriate manner possible, with every effort being made to complete the scheme and reopen the route as soon as practicable.
